2007/2008 Grant Recipients

Spring 2008

Grotta Fund


In Spring 2008, the Grotta Advisory Council approved eleven grants. A partial list of grantees included
:

  • Daughters of Israel received funding for two programs, “Gift A Ride” subsidies for seniors to reach medical appointments, and “Chai Café” transportation and social services program support for elderly Jews from Newark and Irvington, in collaboration with IDT, Inc.
  • The Visiting Nurse and Health Services d/b/a Holy Redeemer received a second year of funding for their innovative medication management program using remote telemonitoring
  • Congregation AABJ&D, to expand its spiritual health and healing nurse program.


New grant programs:

  • NJIT is implementing environmental assessments and interventions for improved dementia care.
  • Main Street Counseling will address mental health issues and improve medication management
  • JFS of MetroWest, to expand the communities served by a national model, Healthy Ideas (Identifying Depression and Empowering Activities among Seniors.
  • JFS of Somerset, Hunterdon and Warren Counties, to provide spiritual outreach and geriatric assessments of seniors.

Fall 2007

In the Fall 2007, nine grants were approved. A partial list of grantees include: Grotta Fund

  • Newark Emergency Services for Families, for a program to improve the nutrition of Newark seniors;
  • NJ Foundation of Dentistry for Persons with Disabilities, to arrange dental care for seniors with limited means;
  • UMDNJ, NJ Medical School, to provide community-based eye scans to detect retinal disease and referrals for treatment.
  • Community Health Law Project, to provide seniors with education and advocacy regarding predatory lending and consumer fraud,
  • Senior Care and Activities Center will test a new model of disease management for seniors who are affected by Congestive Heart Failure and early dementia.
