Who We AreWe are female philanthropists, intent upon overcoming the barriers and resolving the issues that prevent women and girls from taking their just place in society and realizing their true potential.

We are the Jewish Women’s Foundation of New Jersey, working to empower women and girls through strategic grant-making.

Background: In 1643 Lady Ann Radcliffe Mulsen established the first scholarship in the U.S. Since that time, American women have been increasingly engaged in philanthropy. Despite their efforts, most women and girls do not yet have equal access to the halls of power or equal opportunity to fulfill their dreams because they live in a society that is not organized to support their goals.

Today:

  • 50 percent of the wealth in the U.S. is owned by women;
  • 65 percent of stock traded on U.S. exchanges is controlled by women; and
  • More than 50 percent of medical students are women
Despite this:

  • Only 5 of the Fortune 500 CEOs are women;
  • Only 15 percent of the CEOs of non-profit organizations are women;
  • Women comprise only 22 percent of elected officials in the
