JCF Funding Opportunity: JSDD Wellness, Art, and Enrichment Center

Jewish Service for the Developmentally Disabled (JSDD) of MetroWest Wellness, Art, and Enrichment Center

Adam’s routine is a predictable pattern of waking, dressing, eating, and waiting for the van to take him to a day program for adults with developmental disabilities. That routine is now broken up by a day of artistic expression on Thursdays. Now, on Thursdays, a sense of anticipation is in the air.

Adam is a 47-year old man with autism who requires support 24-hours a day. He lives with four other men in a JSDD group home and participates in community activities with the help of staff members assigned to the home. Adam’s communication skills make it difficult to ascertain his likes and dislikes. Through Arts Access, Adam is better able to express his thoughts and feelings.

The Wellness, Art, and Enrichment (WAE) Center provides opportunities for creativity, exploration, and learning, along with spiritual growth in an atmosphere of respect and acceptance. Open to the community, the Center is non-sectarian, and offers classes and opportunities to people 16 and older in such areas as fine arts, yoga, nutrition, meditation, book club, virtual travel, film, and writing.

This model program recognizes the desire of individuals with developmental disabilities to learn, develop new interests, and engage in spiritual growth. Adam is one of about 150 individuals served each year by the WAE at its facility within B’nai Shalom in West Orange.

A gift of $50,000 will support the program for one year. Your contribution of $5,000 will underwrite the participation of 15 students for a year. Your endowment gift of $1,000,000 will ensure that WAE continues to help clients like Adam for generations to come.
