MetroTransport

The whole experience is pure joy. Barbara is not only our driver, she is our friend, our confidant, a part of our family. She is there for us in so many ways and has such a wonderful, positive attitude all the time. We never had transportation from Maplewood and South Orange. The buses just wouldn’t come.

MetroTransport provides rides for seniors like Mrs. G. who cannot drive and who do not have access to private or public transportation due to physical handicap, social isolation, and/or financial need. Clients are transported to doctors’ appointments, outpatient hospital services such as dialysis or chemotherapy, same day surgeries, and senior programming at JCC MetroWest in West Orange. Clients living at community senior housing in Irvington are also transported once a week for social outings at the JCC and various other N.J. locations.

Seniors who qualify for MetroTransport are often escorted from inside their apartment/residence to inside their destinations – a crucial service for many that is unavailable with public transportation. Vans are wheelchair accessible and user friendly for seniors with physical challenges.

Your endowment gift of $1,000,000 will provide 2,100 unduplicated MetroTransport rides annually, and ensure that the service will be available for future generations of seniors who choose to live and age in place in the MetroWest community. A gift of $55,000 can provide funding for a wheelchair accessible vehicle for the program. A contribution of $2,500 will provide rides for 100 passengers for one year.
