Partnership 2000
A special relationship between the MetroWest Jewish community and Ofakim and Merchavim in Israel was established about 10 years ago as part of Partnership 2000. Since then the relationship has strengthened, thanks to the involvement of all parties and the commitment of the MetroWest community. Partnership projects foster excellence in education, culture, sports, and leadership development.
The town of Ofakim and the regional council of Merchavim lie next to each other in northwestern Negev – probably the least developed region in Israel, with socio-economic problems including unskilled residents, education and integration of immigrants from the former Soviet Union and Ethiopia, high unemployment, an ineffective educational system, and poverty affecting all aspects of life.
To meet the needs of the residents of the region, the MetroWest Jewish community has established programs such as:
A gift of $10,000,000 will endow all of Partnership 2000 and ensure that the MetroWest community will always have the resources it needs to empower vulnerable populations in Israel.
