Mrs. W. is an 88-year-old woman who has lived alone in her West Orange home since losing her husband two years ago. She was devoted to her husband, and had been in very good health until he died. Since then, however, she fell and broke her hip and began to have difficulty coping practically and emotionally. Under pressure from her children to “get help,” she finally agreed to call the Transitions Eldercare Program at Jewish Family Service. Through the program, Mrs. W. was able to arrange for home health aide visits and weekly counseling. She formed a bond with her social worker, and could express her grief and anger about the death of her husband, the loss of her independence, and her fears for the future. She is coming to terms with making a transition to an assisted living facility or getting more help in her home. 

JFS’ Center for Eldercare Services provides seniors such as Mrs. W. with the services and support they need to lead secure, healthy lives, including counseling; case management to secure, coordinate, and monitor in-home support services; access to subsidized transportation; and subsidized home health aides and/or companion services.

Your gift of $1,250 will support 30 hours of service for 6 clients. A contribution of $125,000 will ensure the continuity of care by the Center for Eldercare Services for one year. An endowment of $2,500,000 will secure those services into the future.
