Jewish Historical Society of MetroWest
Dr. Lester Goldman was responsible for discovering that fluoroscopes used to fit shoes in the 1950s caused blood abnormalities and should be banned. Louis Bamberger, one of the most significant philanthropists of all time, was a founder of “The Beth” – Beth Israel Hospital in Newark – where the RH factor for blood typing was discovered. Both men lived and worked in the MetroWest community, and both saved countless lives across the country and the world.
The Jewish Historical Society (JHS) of MetroWest has one of the largest and richest collections on local Jewish life in the State. Its archives are made available to schools, journalists, filmmakers, individual researchers, and community agencies. Through traveling exhibitions, slide presentations, videotapes, and an array of speakers with broad knowledge of the community and fascinating anecdotes to relate, JHS breathes life into Jewish history lived in the MetroWest community.
Your contribution of $50,000 would support traveling programs for one year. A gift of $500,000 would enable the Jewish Historical Society of MetroWest to upgrade its information systems to align its collections with national standards. Endowment gifts of $1,000,000 and above would ensure the quality and scope of its archives and allow expansion of its offices to meet the needs of the MetroWest community for generations to come.
