ELI – Israel Association for Child Protection
No children at risk are in greater peril than those who suffer from cruelty, neglect, or abuse, including sexual abuse. Child abuse is a silent disease, hidden by ignorance and shame. It is a terrifying legacy, leaving indelible psychological scars, readily apparent long after the abuse ends. ELI works tirelessly to end terror in the home, stop the vicious cycle of violence, and give voice to the silent.
Violence against children in Israel has risen dramatically since 2000 as a result of economic, political, and societal pressures. ELI fights child abuse on all fronts – protecting and helping children through crisis intervention, emergency shelter, therapy, and legal assistance. ELI also works with perpetrators and other family members to preserve and strengthen families whenever possible. Throughout Israel, ELI promotes community awareness, offers outreach in schools, trains helping professionals and educators, and collaborates at all levels of the legal system.
Founded in 1979, ELI is recognized by the government of Israel and social service organizations as the authority on combating child abuse and is widely acknowledged for its holistic approach and comprehensive array of services. Over 80 percent of those who have participated in ELI’s therapeutic programs can be considered successfully treated.
Your support of ELI’s campaign to combat child abuse and severe neglect is vitally needed at this critical time in Israel’s history. A donation of $5,000 will provide individual, family, and group therapy for all members of one family for one year, or establish a play area for children in therapy. A gift of $8,000 will support one year of ELI’s special intervention program for one self-contained society such as a kibbutz or an isolated community. A donation of $150,000 will support Eli’s hotline for one year – the only telephone service in Israel exclusively related to child abuse, toll free, 14 hours a day, in Hebrew and in Russian.
