Passing the Bar: Facilitating Successful Integration through Scholarship
The halls of the Ra'anana Absorption Center reverberate with conversations in Russian, Spanish, French, English, and Hebrew, with approximately 300 residents from the former Soviet Union, Hungary, and Latin and South America. Many new immigrants are academics and professionals who come with their families and require Israeli licensing in their fields.
A unique program at the Ra'anana Absorption Center provides these professionals with assistance preparing for Israeli licensing exams and help with the bureaucratic process. The program also offers training in specialized fields, translation and authorization of certification documents, and employment workshops to further enhance job search skills.
Scholarships for professional training, along with housing and recreational activities at the absorption center, help alleviate the financial burden on these new immigrants. The lengthy preparatory period demands immigrants' full attention, thereby impeding their ability to earn income for themselves and/or their families. Additionally, an internship or residency period is often required before immigrants can fully enter their fields.
Your partnership will help empower these new immigrants living in Ra'anana. As a recent scholarship recipient wrote,
"This financial help allows me to fulfill my aliyah dream and to become a lawyer. The Jewish Agency is part of the reason that I will be able to succeed in Israel. Aliyah has already opened many new doors in my life and this scholarship will help to open many others.”
Each gift of $1,000 will help support an immigrant for one year during his or her licensing exam. Your contribution of $1,000,000 will endow this project for 20 years. This gift will be recognized by a large plaque mounted on the absorption center's exterior. Reports on activities at the center with stories and photos of recipients will be sent to the donor on a regular basis.
