Jewish Identity Weekends:
Shabbat Seminars in Ukrains

Though it entailed “playing hooky” from her demanding position at a pharmaceutical firm, Galina, a physician from Kiev and mother of two young children, was intrigued enough to respond positively to an invitation to a weekend Jewish Identity seminar. Her experience led her to return to a Jewish world from which she had long been estranged.

In spite of the growing numbers of Ukrainian Jews who have enrolled in these programs -- and the heartwarming success stories of previously unaffiliated Jews who have become active community members and leaders -- the future of the Jewish Identity Project is now threatened by severe funding deficits. Significant investment is required to ensure that over 1,000 Ukrainian Jews will be able to participate in a series of study days that focus on the Jewish calendar, and in three-day weekend seminars that introduce participants to Shabbat. The Shabbat seminars are held in Cherkassy and cannot be offered without your critical support.

Each gift of $100 will underwrite the participation of one person in a Shabbat Seminar. A gift of $1,000 will underwrite the experience for two families. A gift of $100,000 will support 1,000 participants each year. An endowment gift of $2,000,000 will ensure that this program, that has so successfully nurtured a renaissance of Jewish life in Ukraine, will continue for generations to come. To recognize this gift, the program will be named in honor of the donor. You will also be invited to experience a weekend Shabbat Seminar and meet participating families in Cherkassy. In addition, program updates with stories and photos of recipients will be sent to the donor on a regular basis.
