Rutgers Jewish Xperience
The Rutgers Jewish Xperience (RJX) was started in September 2004 to foster personal connections with Jewish college students at Rutgers University, promote their sense of Jewish identity, and empower them to become Jewish leaders on campus and in their future communities.
A major component of RJX is the Maimonides Leaders Fellowship Program, which at Rutgers is hosted by Rutgers Hillel. Originally founded in 1999 at the University of Michigan, it now boasts over twenty participating campuses in the U.S. and Canada.
The Maimonides Leaders Fellowship Program lasts 10 weeks and student participants are given a $400 stipend. During this term, students attend weekly 2½ hour seminars covering diverse leadership topics, general understanding of the Torah, and practical applications of leadership in society. Students are also invited on field trips and community visits to meet local leaders and participate in home-style Shabbat meals in small groups to facilitate greater interaction and a personal connection between students and staff. Also popular are Sushi Wednesdays and individual learning opportunities with Rabbi Meir Goldberg and Rabbi Joshua Lewis and his wife, Mrs. Esther Lewis. By the end of summer 2006, more than 40 students will have engaged in follow-up programs, most of them in Israel, which foster Jewish growth and a passion for the Jewish state. More information can be found at the Rutgers Maimonides website, www.MFellowship.com.
Rutgers students are excited about the RJX, as its successful first two years have proven. Your partnership will help RJX to bring a brighter Jewish future to all its students. Your gift of $250 will sponsor a group Shabbat meal at the RJX House on campus. Each donation of $500 will sponsor sending a student on an RJX mission to Israel, and $1,000 will sponsor one student on campus for the year.
