JFS Center for Community Services
Sam, a 40-year old professional from the Caldwells, came to Jewish Family Service after being diagnosed with a serious disease. Not long after, his wife left him with their young children. His family and health situation and a mounting pile of uncovered medical bills left his suffering from depression.
Pam, a 48-year old mother of two from Livingston, was struck with a sudden debilitating illness, which left her wheelchair-bound. Her husband was unemployed, so the family turned to Jewish Family Service for assistance. Pam would be discharged from the nursing home where she was receiving rehabilitation services, but her home was not wheelchair accessible, so she could not go there.
Both Sam and Pam met with JFS social workers. Both were provided with the services they needed to turn their lives around. Sam was treated for depression and helped to sort through his financial situation. He was helped to get a grant that paid some of his outstanding medical bills. Pam was directed to safety net funds and other community resources to help cover the costs of building a ramp at her home. She will be going home soon.
The JFS Center for Community Services provides people like Sam and Pam with counseling and case management services that enable them to overcome difficulties and rebuild their lives. Your contribution of $500 will provide a month of basic food for a family of four; $1,000 will provide professional support to members of the community seeking interest-free loans. A gift of $3,600 will provide one-time help with rent/mortgage assistance for a family for two months; and $10,000 will help address the ever-growing and unmet need of providing subsidized counseling and psychiatric services for those who cannot afford even the sliding fee scale. An endowment gift of $1,500,000 will ensure that these services are available to needy members of our community for generations to come. The center will be renamed after the donor.
