S. California wildfire relief efforts underway: Emergency mailbox opened to provide relief to those in need The Community Relations Committee of United Jewish Communities of MetroWest NJ has opened an emergency mailbox to collect funds for relief efforts for victims of the wildfires in Southern California which have burned an estimated 400,000-plus acres, destroyed 1,300 homes and businesses, and forced more than one million people to evacuate. An assessment of the disaster’s impact on members of communities, and on communal institutions and property affected in San Diego, Greater Los Angeles, and Orange County, are currently underway by the Jewish federations of Southern California. The Community Relations Committee routinely responds to emergency and disaster situations around the world and works to galvanize support from the MetroWest community to demonstrate the Jewish values of tikkun olam (repair of the world) and g’milut chasadim (acts of loving kindness).
