to speak at UJC’s ‘Sports Nite Out’ on March 26 Rich “Goose” Gossage, a former Yankees relief pitcher and a Class of 2008 inductee to the National Baseball Hall of Fame, will “take the mound” at Sports Nite Out on Wednesday, March 26, at 6 p.m. at the Hilton Parsippany. Henry Gebel of Mendham and Harris Nydick of North Caldwell are the event chairs, which is presented by United Jewish Communities of MetroWest NJ. “Goose” was one of the most dominant relief pitchers of his era. During his 23-year career, Gossage reached the 20-save plateau 10 times, twice saving 30 or more games for the Yankees in a single season. Playing under the pressures and lights of New York City, Gossage became one of the most feared pitchers in the game, the last man opposing teams wanted to see on the mound in the ninth inning. He was the 1975 Fireman of the Year with the White Sox and again in 1978 with the Yankees. He was named to the All-Star team nine times in an 11-year span, and led the American League in saves twice, finishing with 310, tenth on the all-time career list. Corporate sponsors are Friedman LLP; Sills Cummis & Gross; Kramer Levin Naftalis & Frankel, LLP; Toshiba Busniess Solutions; Iceberg Vodka; Rothstein Kass; Wiss & Co.; Tishbi Wines; and WolfBlock. Tickets are $100 per person and include a cocktail reception and buffet dinner; Kosher dietary laws will be observed.
