Arab League chief says all nuclear weapons programs are 'bad and evil'

VIENNA, Austria - The head of the Arab League says all nuclear weapons programs are "bad and evil" - and he insists there are no such programs in the Arab world.

Amr Moussa has told reporters after meeting in Vienna with the chief of the International Atomic Energy Agency that the Middle East does not need a military atomic program.

Moussa says the region has none. But he did not mention Israel, which is believed to have nuclear weapons.

In the past, the Arab League has denounced Israel's suspected arsenal and has urged the U.N. nuclear watchdog agency to pressure the Jewish state to give a full accounting.

Moussa was also meeting with Austria's foreign minister, president and chancellor during Wednesday's visit.
