President's Message

Welcome to Vision Online!

Women’s Philanthropy proudly launches this first electronic edition of Vision.  By arriving instantly in your e-mail box instead of taking days to reach your door, Vision online will bring you information that is useful, timely and easier to share.  And, in the process, we will contribute to the “greening” of United Jewish Communities. We hope you like this new beginning!

As Jews, we approach each fall with a sense of new beginnings. With the advent of Rosh Hashanah, we celebrate the new year with energy and hope. We recommit ourselves to community. And we strive to make the coming year a good year for all of us.

Women at UJC have much to celebrate. Our new name is a reflection of our self-awareness and empowerment. Because we care, we are committed to UJC and its mission, determined to make life better for those who depend upon us for support; determined to educate ourselves and our families and friends about things that are important to us. Through our contributions of time, energy and financial support, women in MetroWest play a key role in this community’s success.

With new beginnings come new challenges, as well as new possibilities. We live at a time when women are pulled in numerous directions. Some of us take care of a spouse, a parent, or our children. Some of us work outside the home. Some of us are consumed by our volunteer involvements. And some of us try to do it all, while still making time for ourselves and our own health and well-being. Whatever your particular situation, Women’s Philanthropy of MetroWest provides meaningful opportunities for involvement. We welcome you. We want to hear your voice.

On September 10, Women’s Philanthropy Opening Event began our year with a screening of the award-winning documentary, The Tribe, which uses the iconic Barbie doll to explore Jewish identity in our multicultural modern world. After the film, panelists of different generations and backgrounds spoke about Jewish identity from their particular vantage points. This was just the beginning of what I hope will continue throughout the year as conversations about Jewish Identity and what that means to each of us personally and collectively.

As we sit around our tables on Rosh Hashanah, let us think about new beginnings, new challenges, and new possibilities on our continuing journey as Jewish women … making a difference in the lives of others, which in turn enriches our own lives.

Wishing you and your family a year blessed with health, inspiration, fulfillment and peace.

Shanah Tovah,
Paula Saginaw
