Women's Campaign is jumping into 2009, and first up on the calendar is METRO MADNESS with Jim Cramer on January 21 at 6 p.m. at the Hilton Parsippany. You know him from his hit CNBC show Mad Money and appearances on the Today Show and NBC Nightly News. Jim is sure to be both relevant and entertaining at this crucial time. Mindy and Gene Kirschner and Nancy and Steven Roth will co-chair this gala event where friends can come together to share a table.
Register before January 8 and receive a discounted couvert of $118 (couvert is $136 after January 8). Or, volunteer to be a table captain and recruit at least eight people to receive free couvert and admission to a VIP reception with Jim Cramer. Anyone who makes a first-time gift of $1,000 or increases his/her gift by $1,000+ also will receive free couvert.
METRO MADNESS is a great opportunity for women who give at the Golda Meir Society level ($1,000 – 1,799) or Pomegranate level ($1,800 – 4,999) to show their support for the work of Women’s Campaign. The minimum annual UJA gift to attend is $1,000 for at least one individual attendee per couple.
The Pomegranate giving level recognizes women who make an annual gift of $1,800 or more and is one of many opportunities Women’s Campaign offers to contribute and engage in our community. In MetroWest, we have more than 350 members who join nearly 5,000 women worldwide as Pomegranates; women who contribute $3,600 or more are recognized as Ruby Pomegranates. Members may show their pride in this important work through purchasing the beautifully designed silver pomegranate pin.
The pomegranate, one of the few species mentioned in the Torah, has become an important symbol of women’s giving. It was chosen because it is said to have 613 seeds, one for each of the Torah’s mitzvot or commandments. We know pomegranates as a great source of sustenance and health for all. The pomegranate has come to represent the continuing dedication of women to helping Jews in need.
Lynda Wachsteter, 2009 Pomegranate Campaign co-chair explained why women should make a gift to the Annual Campaign — at any level. “You want to be a part of everything that is important in the world, particularly philanthropy that can make a difference in people’s lives. So many people in the Jewish world depend on us [at UJC],” she said. “Those of us fortunate enough to be able to give make a statement by contributing to those causes that are important to us as American Jewish women.”
