On April 27 this year, the citizens of Israel will be driving, walking, working, and relaxing as usual. However, when they hear a siren, they will stop what they are doing, get out of their cars if they are driving, and stand in silence for two minutes. This siren reminds them that it is Yom Hazikaron, a special day, a time to remember those who gave their lives for the Jewish people in Israel. The citizens of Israel can never forget, and we must always remember.
In order to make these two minutes more realistic for those of us living in MetroWest, we have created a special curriculum, the “Siren Initiative,” for teachers at Jewish day and supplementary religious schools. The curriculum includes background information about the siren, recommended activities for use in classrooms, and a recorded CD of the siren sound. You are welcome to download and reproduce the materials for use in your classrooms and organizations.
