SAMPLE LETTER

Dear President Obama
Secretary of State Clinton
Special Envoy George Mitchell

As an American, a mother/father, a sister/brother, a friend, and a mentor, I am writing to urge you to ensure the freedom of the kidnapped Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit.

As you know, Gilad Shalit was abducted two and a half years ago (June 25, 2006) from Israeli soil by the terrorist organization, Hamas. About this there is no dispute.

America is poised to deliver $900 million in American aid to address humanitarian needs in Gaza. At the same time there are other humanitarian considerations in the region:  rockets continue to rain down on Israeli children and Gilad Shalit remains in captivity, having been abducted from sovereign Israeli territory nearly three years ago.

We urge you to make the release of Gilad Shalit an international priority before it is too late. We cannot remain silent while Gilad Shalit continues to languish alone in despair and while democracy itself is held hostage.

We must free Gilad so that democracy can triumph.

We trust that you will take the lead in securing Gilad Shalit’s release as soon as possible.

Sincerely,

to receive advocacy updates and action alerts.
