Get on the Bus

We are issuing a call to action to the MetroWest community. Iran is on the brink of developing nuclear weapons. Its people continue to protest against corrupt elections. We have a challenge. This fall is the “window of opportunity” for the community to organize and exert pressure wherever and however we can to help prevent a weaponized nuclear Iran.

On September 24, you will have the opportunity to attend the Stand Up For Freedom in Iran Rally in New York City. UJC MetroWest is making buses available to the community at large, day schools, and congregations to provide transportation to our community. We urge you to get on the bus and stand up and be counted!! We need you to stand up to the government of Iran and tell them that their nuclear program must end. We need you to shout out loudly to the heads of government who will be at the United Nations that they must stop Iran. We need you to tell our elected officials that now is the time to exert economic and political pressure on Iran.

We do not want to face a nuclearized Iran or be on the brink of facing difficult options. This week, the International Atomic Energy Agency confirmed that Iran is rapidly enriching uranium and can have knowledge for weaponry if it chooses to. We are at a crucial moment in history. The decision is yours on how you want to act. What do you want to be able to say to your children when your children and grandchildren ask what you did to prevent a nuclear Iran?

On September 10, I advocated in Washington, DC, on Iran, along with 300 other Jewish leaders from around the country. Our NJ delegation has shown their support by sponsoring the sanctions legislation. However, I have grave concerns that the legislation will be bottled up in committee. Everyone seems to agree that time will soon run out. Now is the time to give the president the tools to apply pressure and now is the time for those tools to be used. I fear that, not too far in the future, we may hear the regret, “If only we had acted sooner.” Our job as a community is to do all we can to persuade our government to act now.
