Sandra Brown ShermanJerome A. Deener, Esq. is the Senior Partner of Deener, Hirsch & Shramenko, P.C., which specializes in the fields of individual, corporate, and estate planning, real estate and taxation. He is listed among top trusts and estate tax attorneys in New Jersey in New Jersey Magazine and in Who’s Who in American Law.  He is a Fellow in the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel, the past Chairman of the Probate Committee of the Bergen County Bar Association, past Chairman of the Tax Committee of the Bergen County Bar Association, and a past President of the Estate Planning Council of Bergen County. Mr. Deener has authored the first, second and third editions to Estate Planning Strategist (2007) and numerous articles on estate planning. He has been quoted on estate planning topics in the New York Times and Wall Street Journal. He has lectured extensively and has served as Chairman of the Fairleigh Dickinson Tax Seminar presented for the benefit of tax professionals in Northern New Jersey. His firm conducts monthly tax seminars for Attorneys, CLUs, CPAs and CFPs and is an approved sponsor of Continuing Professional Education Credits in New York and New Jersey for CLUs, CPAs and CFPs. Mr. Deener successfully litigated the Tax Court case of Karmazin v. Commissioner involving a sale of limited partnership interests to a Grantor Trust.

He received a Masters Degree in Taxation from New York University, and was an adjunct professor of taxation at Fairleigh Dickinson University for five years. Mr. Deener serves on JCF’s Board of Trustees and co-chairs its Professional Advisory Network (PAN) Steering Committee. 

 
Sandra Brown ShermanSandra Brown Sherman, Esq. is a partner in the tax/trusts and estates department of the firm of Riker, Danzig, Scherer, Hyland & Perretti LLP.  She is a member of the American, New Jersey, New York and Illinois Bar Associations, and is a member of the American Bar Association’s Real Property, Probate and Trust Law Section’s subcommittee on Estate Planning and Administration for Business Owners, and Technology and Economics.  She is also a member of the Estate Planning Councils of Northern New Jersey and New York City.  She is a Law 214 authorized attorney in the Principality of Monaco, and she is also a member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners (STEP), an international network of trust and estates professionals.  Ms. Sherman is a frequent lecturer, and she has authored articles for a variety of national estate planning journals on tax and philanthropic issues.  

She received her undergraduate degree, with distinction, from Indiana University, and her J.D., magna cum laude, from the University of Illinois, where she also received an LL.M.  She is licensed to practice in New Jersey, New York, Texas and Illinois, and before the U.S. Tax Court. She serves on JCF’s Board of Trustees, Executive Committee and Legal Review Committee, chairs its Corporate Governance and Donor Advised Fund Review Committees and co-chairs its Professional Advisory Network (PAN) Steering Committee.

 
Michael N. GooenMichael N. Gooen, Esq. is a member of the Trusts and Estates Group and Business Tax Counseling and Structuring practice at Lowenstein Sandler PC.  His practice focuses on income and transfer tax planning for businesses and individuals.  In 2008, Mr. Gooen was named to Worth magazine’s list of “Top 100 Attorneys,” an annual list that recognizes the nation’s leading attorneys specializing in trust and estates, philanthropy, and other private practice areas.  He is also listed in New Jersey Super Lawyers and The Best Lawyers in America (2009). Mr. Gooen’s personal planning practice includes design and implementation of estate plan instruments, sophisticated gifting vehicles and personal and business arrangements integral to family asset planning. His transactional practice encompasses the tax aspects of mergers and acquisitions, securities offerings, private financings, investment partnerships, and joint ventures. 

He received his B.A., magna cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa from Harvard University and his J.D. from Stanford Law School. He is a member of the American Bar Association’s Taxation Section and Real Property, Probate and Trust Section. He is also co-editor of the Tax Section Newsletter of the New Jersey Bar Association. He is admitted to practice in New Jersey and New York.
