The Holocaust Council of United Jewish Communities of MetroWest NJ is proud to present the film “No. 4 Street of our Lady” on December 20, at 2:00 p.m. The film will be shown as a part of the Council’s Real to Reel film series, which presents both documentary and feature films about the Holocaust, free of charge to the public. A moderator provides historical background, and often producers, directors or subjects of the film are present to offer their personal perspectives.

“No. 4 Street of our Lady,” which was made in 2009, tells the remarkable yet little-known story of Francisca Halamajowa, a Polish-Catholic woman who rescued 16 of her Jewish neighbors during the Holocaust while cleverly passing herself off as a Nazi sympathizer. For close to two years, she hid her Jewish neighbors in her tiny home and cooked and cared for them, right under the noses of German troops camped on her property as well as hostile neighbors. The film draws on excerpts from a diary kept by one of the survivors. Powerful location shots add another rich dimension to the story, providing the backdrop as the drama unfolds.

Judy Maltz, the movie’s producer, and Fran Malkin, one of the rescued survivors, will be present during the showing of the film.

Everyone who wishes to attend is welcome. Light refreshments will be served.
