Super Sunday is coming — Dec 6!

Date:   Sunday, December 6, 2009
Time:  9:30 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Place: Alex Aidekman Family Jewish Community Campus
901 Route 10, Whippany, N.J.

Super Sunday, the year’s biggest phonathon event for the United Jewish Appeal of MetroWest NJ, will be happening on Sunday, December 6. The all-day fundraising, community-building celebration will run from 9:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. And it’s set to take place on the Alex Aidekman Family Jewish Community Campus in Whippany.

This year’s Super Sunday chairs are David Boyko of Short Hills, Jeff Handsman of West Orange, and Ron Silbermann of Randolph.

Super Sunday is a moment for community solidarity. Above all, it is a Day of Philanthropy that involves everyone who can help as well as everyone in need of our help. Especially at this time of economic stress, when so many Jews in MetroWest are having trouble making ends meet, or are looking for work, or are finding their family lives are in need of professional counseling, Super Sunday is an occasion when we can all come together. It’s a moment when we can show how much we care for each other, how much we can rely on each other — how much Jews can do to support and protect Jews.

And, Super Sunday is a time for celebration. The day will be filled with activities for children and adults. The key activity, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., will be a community-wide Hanukkah Celebration. Great for families and especially for children 11 years and younger, the festive holiday kick-off will be filled with activities for all ages. There will be a chance to YouTube Yourself, Music and Movement with Carol Berman, an olive oil press, Story time with PJ Library, Dreidel Trivia, candle making, a New Jersey Jewish News Art Contest, Make a Bracelet for an Israeli Soldier, Hanukkah picture frames, sand art, Hanukkah painting, Decorate a Hanukkah Bag, and more.

In addition, there will be many other activities throughout the day:

  • Football Party, from 2:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. — come and watch the big game on the big screen while making calls to the community to help support Jews in need, sponsored by the Young Leadership Division of UJC MetroWest
  • Israeli vendors from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Babysitting (drop in), six months or older, 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
  • Blood drive, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Canned food drive

There will also be a special Teen/College Student Call Session during the last session of the day, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Last year, at Super Sunday, the teens and college students came in enormous numbers and did a spectacular job on the phones. They were the highlight of the event and won the admiration of their elders. This year, they’re ready to do it again. Participating teens and college students will be able to earn community service hours and will be eligible to win some great prizes. And pizza will be served.

For further information about Super Sunday and to register to come by and make calls, visit the Super Sunday website: www.ujcnj.org/supersunday, e-mail , or phone (973) 929-3010.

UJA MetroWest asks that every member of the MetroWest Jewish community come and make calls on Super Sunday, and those who can’t come, please answer when called, and show how you live generously.
