Defiant Israel says activists prepared to fight


JERUSALEM — Israel's prime minister claimed that the Turkish activists who battled Israeli naval commandos in a deadly clash last week prepared for the fight ahead of time, before boarding the ship in a different city from the rest of the passengers. more

As the United Nations Security Council intensified its economics sanctions against Iran, a group of legislators and Jewish activists gathered together and issued a call to governments and private entities in other states to follow New Jersey’s lead in using divestment to stop Iranian nuclear ambitions. more

I came of age in the era of second wave feminism and I was so proud of so many women who were "firsts" back then — watching women take on new roles was inspiring and exhilarating. I don’t know that I specifically thought of Helen Thomas when I thought of these other women “firsts,” but I certainly knew that she held a powerful position as the first woman dean of the White House press corps, and that she didn’t shrink from difficult questions.  more

The closed sky caught us in Hungary with all its painful Jewish history, a week after their national elections in which a far right party won much power, a few days after Yom Hashoa (Holocaust remembrance day) and symbolically during Yom Hazikaron and Yom Ha’atzmaut (Israeli memorial and independence days).  more
