Happy 150th Anniversary, Part II

I had the privilege of attending the 150th Anniversary Shabbat Celebration for Congregation Oheb Shalom. While Oheb Shalom's genesis was marked by preserving tradition, it has played an important role in effecting social change. For example, giving women Aliyot decades before it became common. Rabbi Alex Shapiro, participated with other MetroWest Rabbis in the Civil Rights marches, led by Rev. Martin Luther King.  >>MORE>>

Like many a speech on Israel, Dan Senor's began with all that ails the Jewish state: constant war, few natural resources, an economic boycott by its regional neighbors. Yet for Senor, this is all preamble for the good news: Despite its disadvantages, Israel has emerged as an economic powerhouse, listing more of its companies on NASDAQ than any countries besides the United States and China, attracting more venture capital than any single European economy, and leading the world in the percentage of its economy spent on research and development.  >>MORE>>

The Gift of Jewish Family Service

I was first introduced to Jewish Family Service (JFS) of MetroWest in the fall of 2001. At drop-off one day, the preschool director asked if I would be interested in a mommy and me class for my daughter and I. We met the three other moms and their respective children. We sang songs, read stories, talked and played. At the conclusion of the class, the preschool director explained to us that another mom would joining us. She was a 9/11 widow and JFS had given her and her daughter the gift of this class. In that moment, we knew that this was different.  >>MORE>>
