Midler, Seinfeld, Biden headline Jewish museum opening

Philadelphia (JTA) — Vice President Joe Biden, Jerry Seinfeld and Bette Midler headlined a festive opening weekend for the new National Museum of American Jewish History in Philadelphia. The gala events marked the culmination of a decade-long, $150 million effort to move from a small space adjoining a synagogue to an impressive structure situated in the center of historic Philadelphia, near the Liberty Bell, Independence Hall and the Constitution Center, the Philadelphia Jewish Exponent reported. more

"Max"imum Potential — A UJC Blog
Max Kleinman shares his thoughts about what's important to the MetroWest community.
Max Kleinman The Domino Effect
As I was checking out of my hotel at the recently concluded General Assembly and International Lion of Judah conventions, I was greeted by a receptionist who came from Moscow. She told me that she was here for a training program and would be returning to Russia. I asked what her impressions were of our conventions. She replied that she had never seen so many Jews, especially Russian-speaking Jews.   more

Dana Lichtenberg My Purple Purse is WAE Cool
When I get dressed up, my favorite accessory is always with me — my purple clutch. I bought this bag last year at a Women’s Philanthropy event and every time I use it, it garners a lot of attention. It is a great conversation starter and the conversation begins like this. . . “It’s from the WAE Center in West Orange, the Wellness, Arts and Enrichment Center. The WAE Center. W-A-E.”   more

Leslie Dannin Rosenthal Proud to be a Lion
I just returned from the thrill of a (Jewish volunteer) lifetime — chairing the International Lion of Judah Conference in New Orleans last week. I had been feeling lots of nervous excitement at the thought of getting up in front of this very dynamic, thoughtful, and opinionated group of women, but I realized I didn’t need to be nervous at all. I was looking at 1,100 of my new best friends. How did I know this? Because I knew I was looking at women with whom I share a very deep connection, even if I had never met most of them before.   more

A personal view of our efforts in Israel from Amir Shacham, Associate Executive Vice President, Israel and Overseas
Amir ShachamNot a Word About Politics
It is hard to believe but it is already a decade (or so) since the second intifada broke out and into our lives. I am using "or so" because the problem is that we were all blind to detecting and identifying this major political and security development. Unlike other wars, we couldn't really put our fingers on the exact date of the intifada's beginning or end point. For months, the terror attacks and the peace talks were intertwined.  more
