IT'S IN THE BAG!

PURPOSE:
To make a container for Shalach Manot, to encourage students and their families to participate in this Purim mitzvah.

MATERIALS NEEDED:
brown paper lunch bags, oaktag, pattern page, scissors, markers, string or ribbon, glue, hole puncher; Optional items: construction paper, colored cellophane, paint and/or glitter

DIRECTIONS:

  1. 1. Each child gets a brown paper lunch bag. Student cuts two large, identical hamantaschen shapes out of oaktag (use pattern drawn on this page).
  2. Using markers, decorate one side of each hamantaschen shape to look like a hamantasch. The filling can be made using different colored markers, colored construction paper pieces, colored cellophane, glitter or paint.
  3. Write a Purim message to the person receiving the Shalach Manot package on one of the hamantaschen shapes.
  4. Punch a hole in the top two corners of each hamantasch shape.
  5. Glue the hamataschen onto the sides of the opened brown paper lunch bag (decorated side showing, point down).
  6. Cut string or ribbon, insert through holes in shapes, and tie to make handles.
  7. Fill with at least two different types of food and deliver to a friend!
