Israeli Embassy1933 -- Mapai Takes Victory
Elections in the Yishuv for the 18th Zionist Congress resulted in a large victory for Mapai ("Palestine Labor Party") which, running together with Hashomer Hatza'ir ("The Young Watchman"), obtained 34 of the 50 delegates. The Revisionists, constituting the primary opposition, obtained 5 delegates.

1948 -- New Israeli Currency Introduced
Finance Minister Eliezer Kaplan introduced the new Israeli currency, replacing the Mandatory currency. 1 IL =  $4.00.

1949 -- Army Day Announced
Army Day was marked by an official ceremony in which twelve fighters in the War of Independence were awarded the Hero of Israel decoration.

1951 -- Knesset Passes Law on Equal Rights for Women

1956 -- Soviets Agree to Sell Oil to Israel
An agreement for the supply of Soviet oil to Israel was signed in Moscow.

1959 -- Foreign Investors Plan for Larger Pipeline
A consortium of foreign investors, headed by Baron Rothschild from France, announced a plan to lay a larger oil pipeline from Eilat to Haifa.

1967 -- Israel Exchanges Hundred of POWs for Two Israelis
After the Six Day War, Israel exchanged 591 Syrian POW's for two Israelis held by Syria.

1972 -- Japanese Terrorist Sentenced to Life
The surviving Japanese terrorist, Kozo Okamoto, who took part in the massacre at Lod Airport, was sentenced to life imprisonment.
