Live Generously -- help us grow a strong UJA Campaign
Reach out to Ethiopian Jews in Israel
We exceeded our 2005 campaign goal! This past year, Young Leadership Division brought in $1,143,985 of the $24.2 million raised for the 2005 United Jewish Appeal (UJA) of MetroWest NJ campaign!
Building upon last year’s momentum, Young Leadership Division is striving to raise $1.2 million of the MetroWest community’s $25 million goal. As we begin the Jewish New Year and this year’s campaign, we are continuing to create brighter futures for the MetroWest community here and for our partnership communities in Israel and overseas.
Young Leadership Division will be highlighting a special initiative this year to educate our volunteers. Operation Atzmaut is a partnership of United Jewish Communities (UJC) of MetroWest NJ, the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee (JDC), the Rishon LeZion municipality, and the Ethiopian-Israeli community. Operation Atzmaut empowers Ethiopian-Israeli families to gain greater levels of self sufficiency and better integrate into mainstream Israeli society. This initiative has become a model for successful absorption of Ethiopians across the entire State of Israel.
Through our UJA Campaign, we are encouraging people to Live Generously. Jews here and abroad have been given opportunities for a better life that they would have never had otherwise.
Why do you live generously?
“I live generously because I believe in the future of the Jewish people, and the best way to ensure that future is by sharing Jewish joy, building community, and helping others in need,” said Gregg Russo.
“I think all of us want to make sure that tomorrow the world will be a better place for everyone, for our children, and our children’s children,” commented Mike Davis. “When we live generously, we make sure the world will be a better place.”
Perhaps Anne Frank summed it up perfectly when she wrote, "How wonderful it is that nobody need wait a single moment before starting to improve the world."
Live Generously.™ Nothing is more Powerful!

Gayle Wieseneck and Lisa Lisser
For several years, Lisa Lisser and Gayle Wieseneck, recipients of the 2005 Julius and Bessie Cohn Young Leadership Award, have been working diligently to build a bridge between Young Leadership Division and young women in the Women’s Department. “We reach a lot of the same demographic group,” Lisa explains, “and between both areas we have a full menu of programs and activities.”
Their hard work has paid off. Together with a team of young women, Lisa and Gayle are working on an exciting new Philanthropy 101 initiative, which will “reach out to all women in our community [nursery schools and JCCs] with programs, mini-missions, and events designed to educate and inspire women to participate in the work we do here [at UJC], in Israel, and around the world.”
“Our involvement in our synagogue, the nursery schools, and in the greater MetroWest community has greatly enhanced our lives,” observes Gayle, “and we want our children to feel the same kind of wonderful connection to the Jewish people.”
Stay tuned for a Philanthropy 101 coming to your neighborhood in the near future! For more information, contact Robin Leitner at (973) 929-3035 or .
