A UJA donor since 1946 because 'I'm Jewish'

Why has Rosilin Gurwitz Clark contributed to UJA since 1946 – more than half a century?

"After all, I'm Jewish," said Gurwitz Clark. "I never questioned it. It's the best way to help people when I can't help them myself – and UJA helps so many organizations."

She has given time as well as money over the years. Shortly after she married, she was asked if she would canvas for UJA on her block in Newark and said, "Of course." Later, she became area chairman in the South Ward. Eventually, she moved to Hillside and got involved in phonathons, marshalling people to participate, and now she is a regular at the annual Super Sunday phonathon of the United Jewish Appeal of MetroWest NJ in Whippany.

Clark is still active in the business that she developed in 1965 after the death of her first husband. She began with the production of drapes and slipcovers in her basement, hiring people to do the cutting. Later, she bought into Acme Window Shades and Awnings, then moved to Shademasters, and finally to her present location, Acme Drapemasters of America.

To Rosilin Gurwitz Clark, giving to UJA is a basic part of Jewish life. "After all, if we don't help each other, who will?"

If you, like Rosilin Gurwitz Clark, have given to UJA for 25 years or more, the Jewish Community Foundation of MetroWest would like to recognize you as a Ner Tamid Achiever, with a listing on the Ner Tamid honor roll and invitations to special events.
