Ner Tamid couple married in year Israel was born

"Our love of Israel and our very Jewish consciousness" led Pearl and Jerome ("Jerry") Kipnees to contribute faithfully to the United Jewish Appeal for some 40 years – perhaps even longer.

They were married the same year Israel was born – 1948 – and have been giving almost that long although they haven't kept an exact count. For the past 18 years, Pearl and Jerry have been living in an adult community, but they have continued their contributions to the annual campaign of the United Jewish Appeal of MetroWest NJ.

While they were living within the MetroWest geographic boundaries, one of their three children went to Solomon Schechter through high school. "I think he was in their third graduating class, when they were still meeting in the Y and other places," recalled Pearl. A grandson, the nephew of the son who attended Solomon Schechter, graduated last year and is now a student at Harvard, while a granddaughter is in the fifth grade.

If you, like Pearl and Jerry Kipnees, have given to UJA for 25 years or more, the Jewish Community Foundation of MetroWest would like to recognize you as a Ner Tamid Achiever, with a listing on the Ner Tamid honor roll and invitations to special events. If you are already a Ner Tamid Achiever, JCF encourages you to share your thoughts and feelings about UJA at .
