If you are a World War II survivor or liberator, the Holocaust Council of United Jewish Communities of MetroWest NJ would like to borrow your vintage photos, documents, and memorabilia for an exhibit, From Memory to History, which will open January 27, 2005 to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz.
Letters, passports, military dog tags, and other artifacts are among the items being sought. The exhibit will focus on storyboards created from photos and artifacts related to the wartime experiences of members of the MetroWest community.
The Holocaust Council will work with survivors and liberators to reproduce and preserve their photos and documents. The original items will be returned within a few days. Volunteers will also videotape oral histories. These services are free of charge.
Thousands of visitors, including teachers and students from public, private, and religious schools in the MetroWest area, are expected to view the exhibit, which will be held at the Alex Aidekman Family Jewish Community Campus in Whippany.
"This is a significant opportunity to preserve the history of MetroWest survivors and liberators for their family and for future generations," said Holocaust Council Director Barbara Wind.
Those who would like to participate or volunteer are urged contact the Holocaust Council via by August 31, 2004.
