JCF goes beyond UJA Campaign to safeguard community’s future
Anat Becker, Executive Director, and Stacy Sulman, Assistant Director
Jewish Community Foundation of MetroWest NJ

United Jewish Communities of MetroWest NJ (UJC) strives to provide the services that our community needs and expects: aid to victims of domestic violence; family counseling; assistance for the poor and unemployed; Jewish education; nursing homes and assisted living; special needs intervention; support for Israel, and a host of other services. Funds are raised through the annual United Jewish Appeal of MetroWest NJ (UJA), but the campaign is hampered by two forces beyond its control:

• The passing of a generous generation. Many leading contributors to the UJA Campaign are over 65. When they die, their crucial support is often lost.

• Economic fluctuations. When the economy takes a tumble, the community is hurt in many ways. Donors have less money to give. Return on investments in endowments is lower. And, as funds dwindle, more people turn to UJC and its agencies for help.

Enter JCF. The Jewish Community Foundation of MetroWest NJ (JCF) provides our community with stability, strength, and security for its future by serving as the central location for endowments, bequests, and planned giving.

Enter You. A Perpetual Annual Campaign Endowment (PACE) is a permanent fund that endows your UJA gift -- your lasting legacy.

PACE funds can be created through a variety of vehicles. Many have tax and income advantages. Some provide your estate with tax benefits and do not require you to contribute during your lifetime.

To arrive at the estimated amount needed to endow your entire campaign gift, multiply your current gift by 20.

Some ways to fund your PACE gift:

• Outright gift
• Bequest
• Charitable gift annuity or charitable remainder trust
• Life insurance
• IRA or pension plan

When you give appreciated property, such as securities or real estate, you can bypass or defer the capital gains tax. In some instances, it will also generate an income tax charitable deduction and remove those assets from your taxable estate.

PACE endowments of $100,000 or more are recognized through membership in the Lester Society. At any level, your PACE commitment will help preserve our rich heritage of compassion, justice, and Jewish community.

PACE in MetroWest

• There are now 257 Lester Society/Lion of Judah Endowments (LOJE) families, whose commitments to the future of our community total more than $100 million.

• A LOJE is a permanent endowment created by a minimum gift of $100,000, which perpetuates the donor’s annual Lion of Judah contribution of $5,000 or more to the UJA. Women who establish a LOJE become members of the Lester Society.

• Named memorial funds can be created with a bequest of $5,000 or more.
